Clifton Park is and has always been an ideal family community since it was first settled in the 1700's. In 1783 George Washington is said to have ferried across the Mohawk River at Visher's Ferry and stopped at Nicholas Fort's tavern. In1828 the present 50 sq. mile town (see maps) was formed from the Town of Half Moon and named “Clifton”. A year later “Park” was added to the name (probably derived from the name of the original Clifton Park patent land grant).

The landscape is gently rolling with peaceful streams and brooks. Today there are approximately 32,000 residents (see 2000 census details). Clifton Park is one of the fastest growing towns in New York State--thanks largely to the opening of the Adirondack Northway in 1967. Its principal villages are: Rexford, Clifton Park and Ballston Lake but the landscape is rich in moderate sized communities with names like Crescent, Evergreen, Woodland, Sherwood Forest, Country Knolls, Glenbrook, to name but a few.
